This was a completely spurious warning - I could even print perfect test pages through the usb cable so there was no connection problem, but the warning allows you to proceed no further, effectively leaving me stranded. Unfortunately for me the utility detected the printer with no trouble at all, but repeatedly told me that there was an "I/O problem - check your USB connection". You begin this process by temporarily connecting a usb cable to the device. This should be accomplished by the hp-setup utility that comes with hplip. What you have to achieve to get this device working (wirelessly at least) is to pass your router ssid and password to the device software (and add the device mac address to your routers hardware access list if you use such a thing). I tried the link given by Fandangio, but unfortunately it didn't work at all for me. I have just purchased and installed one of these machines so I thought I would add my experiences for anyone else that might need a bit of help.

However I then got a message that command could not be carried out.ĭo I presume from this that I cannot run the automatic installer and will have to install it manually, or is there a way round this.

I noticed that the driver included with Mint 10 is HPLIP 3.10.6 whilst the latest version which according to HP supports the 3050 is 3.10.9. I installed SANE but that program does not recognise it and neither does SimpleScan. However though it prints OK it will not scan. It installed OK and though the 3050 was not shown on the printer list I selected the 2050 and it installed. I have recently acquired an HP Deskjet 3050 J610 series all in one printer.
